Phase 2: Chichiri Learning and Teaching Materials
Phase two of the Chichiri Primary School Project is the address of the lack of access to critical learning and teaching materials.
The challenge with Chichiri Primary School, like most schools in the country, is beyond aesthetic, and touches on the lack of accessibility to the most basic, foundational and fundamental resources that define any educational institution and the learning experience of its students.
The school administration discusses how for every 200 students in a grade, they receive from the government just 4 books (per subject) for all those learners. Meaning, in a classroom setting of 50 students, they have 1 book for 50 students to share.
With a lack of learning materials that are impeding student’s accessibility to knowledge, phase two of the project is to ensure that each student at Chichiri Primary School has access to their own book of the core learning subjects: Maths, Science, Life Skills, Social Studies, Bible Knowledge, Expressive Art and Agriculture.
With a cost of $3.50 for student books and $3 for teachers books, we need $33,000 to purchase enough teaching and learning materials for 1510 students. Reflecting on the issue on sustainability, books can be used for a period of 5 years.
